OEM Metal Fabrication – FAQ

OEM metal fabrication is the process of manufacturing metal components and assemblies used in products sold by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Rather than producing products under our own brand, Seaborn manufactures parts according to customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. OEM metal fabrication commonly includes laser cutting, bending, welding, machining, tube bending, finishing, and assembly. These components are then incorporated into equipment, machinery, vehicles, or industrial systems. Seaborn Manufacturing focuses on repeatability, quality, and long term production support.

OEM metal fabrication is typically a niche segment of metal manufacturing focused on producing components for other company’s finished products. Metal manufacturing is a broader term that can include casting, forging, machining, fabrication, assembly, and product manufacturing. OEM fabrication suppliers like Seaborn work directly from customer engineering data and often become long term production partners. The emphasis is on repeatable quality, reliable delivery, and supporting the customer’s manufacturing program.

OEM metal fabrication costs vary depending on material type, material thickness, part complexity, production volume, welding requirements, machining requirements, and finishing specifications. Higher production quantities most often will reduce the per part costs by spreading setup and programming expenses across larger runs. Material selection also plays a major role, with stainless steel and aluminum typically costing more than carbon steel. The most accurate way to determine cost is through a review of drawings, quantities, and project requirements through a request for a quote.

Lead times depend on project complexity, production volume, material availability, and required manufacturing processes. Simple laser cut components may be completed relatively fast. While welded assemblies requiring machining, finishing, and assembly generally require a fair bit more production time. Most OEM customers benefit from scheduled production programs that improve planning and delivery consistency. Early fabricator involvement during project planning often helps reduce overall lead times.

Seaborn regularly processes carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum for OEM manufacturing projects. Material selection depends on structural requirements, corrosion resistance, appearance, weight, and operating environment. Carbon steel is commonly used for industrial equipment and structural components, while stainless steel and aluminum are often selected for corrosion resistance, weight reduction, or appearance.

Yes. Seaborn supports both low volume production and recurring OEM orders. Our modern CNC controlled manufacturing equipment, dedicated production fixtures, and repeatable fabrication processes help maintain quality across larger production volumes. Many OEM customers require ongoing deliveries throughout the year, and our systems are designed to support these long term manufacturing relationships, all the  while maintaining consistent quality and on time deliveries.

Yes. Seaborn regularly supports manufacturers throughout Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Hamilton, and the Greater Toronto Area. Our Waterloo facility allows us to provide responsive service while maintaining convenient access to all of Southern Ontario. Customers benefit from local engineering support, dependable deliveries, and Ontario based production capabilities.

The most efficient way to receive a quotation is to provide the detailed engineering drawings, CAD files, quantities, material specifications, and any required finishing or assembly information. Additional details such as annual usage, and delivery schedules can also improve quote accuracy. Our team reviews project requirements, including your specifications and tolerances. We than quote based on the most efficient manufacturing approach based on the required production volume, and timeline.
