We Lasercut all of Your Metals
Seaborn Manufacturing provides comprehensive metal laser cutting services for Cambridge manufacturers requiring precision and flexibility. Our focus is on producing consistent, high quality cuts across a wide range of materials while maintaining tight tolerances and production efficiency. Whether your requirement is for a smaller project or ongoing production, our equipment and process ensure dependable results.
Laser cutting flat sheets of Aluminium
We process common aluminum grades such as 5052 and 6061 with controlled cutting parameters to minimize dross and maintain clean edge quality. This is particularly important for applications requiring weight reduction and a consistent fit. Commonly cutting to +/-0.005”
Custom Laser Cutting of Carbon Steel
Carbon steel remains the most commonly processed metal. This includes grades such as A36, 44W / 300W, 50W / 350W, 1008, and 1020, along with galvanized sheets. We also process alloy steels including 4140 and wear resistant materials. Our CNC laser cutting services support both sheet and tube production, typically ranging from small batches to mid volume production runs
Stainless Steel and Hastelloy, Laser Cutting Cambridge
For demanding environments such as those found in food processing, energy, and some industrial applications, we provide precision laser cutting of stainless steels and specialty alloys like Hastelloy. Maintaining ±0.005” accuracy, we support both prototype and production volumes while ensuring consistent edge quality and dimensional control.
Our Metal Laser Cutting Process
Our process is structured to ensure accuracy from RFQ (request for quote) through to final delivery, minimizing errors and ensuring repeatability.
1. File Review and Validation
We review customer supplied DXF and DWG files to confirm clean geometry, closed profiles, and manufacturability. Files submitted should be one to one and may either be 1 unit equals 1 inch or 1 unit equals 1mm. All holes and features should be drawn to middle of the tolerance meaning if the hole is 1.000” plus 0.01” it should be drawn 1.005” in the CAD file. There should not be an open vector or lines just sitting open.
2. CNC Laser Setup and Cutting
Parts are programmed and processed using the laser’s CAM (computer aided machining) package. We then enter the number of each part we need and the parts are nested to make best use of the sheet(s) required by the CAM system. The nests are posted to the laser and the laser parameters for the sheet are pulled up. The fiber laser than efficiently and accurately cut your parts,
3. Inspection and Finishing
Once laser cut parts undergo inspection for dimensional accuracy. Then further processing as required by the part happens. This could be forming in a CNC brake press, tapping holes, welding to other parts or powder coat. Parts do not ship without a proper and appropriate inspection.
4. Fabrication Integration or Shipmen
Parts often continue on through fabrication and are combined together with other parts to make weldments and assemblies. We manufacture your metal components, weldments and assemblies. Once everything is completed and inspected we carefully package and ship your product to you.

Laser Cutting Services FAQ
We process a significant quantity; carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized materials for customers in Cambridge who require precise, production ready high quality components.
We do not typically process wood or plastics. We focus on laser metal cutting.
Laser cutting commonly achieves tolerances of ±0.005” (0.13 mm), depending on material type and thickness. This level of accuracy allows most parts to be used directly in assemblies without secondary machining. Consistency across production runs ensures repeatability and a reliable fit.
Laser cutting uses concentrated infrared light to precisely cut metal materials. In modern fiber laser systems, this energy is delivered through a fiber optic cable, allowing efficient, high-speed cutting with excellent edge quality and minimal distortion.
You can submit RFQ details including part drawings, material requirements, quantities, and timelines. Dimensioned PDF files are best for quoting. Once we go to cut, providing clean DXF or DWG files ensures faster processing. Our team will review your submission, confirm its manufacturability, and provide a detailed quotation. Communication remains direct throughout the process to ensure clarity and all expectations are met.
Current capability:
Steel: 24 ga to ¾”
Aluminum: 0.030” to ¼”
Stainless: 0.030” to ⅜”
Spring 2025 expansion:
Carbon steel up to 2”
Aluminum up to 1.5”
Stainless up to 1.25”
Copper up to ½”
Laser cutting is not recommended for most plastics due to hazardous fumes.
Typical lead times for laser cutting parts as a standalone service are approximately 2–3 weeks. Costs are influenced by material type, thickness, gas usage (quantity and which assist gas), part geometry, and quantity. Efficient sheet utilization and repeat production runs help reduce cost. Tight tolerances, complex features, and small hole requirements may increase processing time and pricing.
Quantity of material and cutting time are the two biggest cut factors. The thicker the material gets and the more distance that needs to be cut the longer the cutting time and the higher your cost will be.
We accept DXF and DWG files as standard. STEP files may be reviewed for flat pattern extraction. Clean geometry and clearly defined revisions ensure efficient programming and accurate production. Cambridge manufacturers are long accustomed to sending dwg and dxf files
We offer precision press brake forming, CNC tube bending, welding, and hardware insertion. Coordinating these services with our laser cutting ensures consistent tolerances and a reduced overall lead time for our Cambridge clients.
