Our Sheet Metal Fabrication Services in Kitchener

We take flat sheet stock and convert it into precision fabricated components ready for integration into your assemblies.

Our workflow is structured around control:

  • CNC laser cutting for accurate blank development
  • Precision press brake forming with 3D visualization
  • CNC punching and forming where required
  • Robotic and manual welding using 3D modular weld tables
  • Assembly and hardware installation

Every operation is planned before production begins. Accuracy is not corrected later, it is built in from the first laser cut.

We have supplied sheet metal fabrication across Canada, but our core client base includes manufacturers in Kitchener/Waterloo who require production grade repeatability and engineering accountability.

Sheet Metal Fabrication in Kitchener for Any Material

Steel / Mild Steel / Carbon Steel

The majority of custom sheet metal fabrication in Kitchener uses carbon steel grades such as A36, 44W, 50W, 300W, and 350W.

Mild steel remains the most cost effective solution for precision fabrication. It offers excellent strength to cost ratio, strong weldability, and wide availability across Ontario.

For most industrial enclosures, frames, and brackets, carbon steel should be your default material.

Aluminum Fabrication Kitchener

Common aluminum grades include:

  • 5052 H32 for formed sheet
  • 6061 T6 for plate applications

5052 is preferred for brake forming due to its ductility. 6061T6 plate offers strength but is not formable in its hardened condition.

Aluminum should be selected when weight reduction or heat transfer is critical. It conducts heat approximately four times faster than mild steel but offers lower strength at equal thickness.

Surface protection may be required due to aluminum’s softness.

Stainless Steel Fabrication Services

Grade 304 stainless steel is most commonly used for sheet, tube, and plate fabrication.

Stainless provides superior corrosion resistance and chemical durability compared to carbon steel or aluminum. It is frequently specified for food, laboratory, and harsh environment applications.

Material cost is typically significantly higher than carbon steel. However, when coating systems can be eliminated, lifecycle cost may justify the selection.

Stainless also offers improved scratch resistance and lower thermal conductivity compared to carbon steel.

Industries We Support in Kitchener, Ontario

Kitchener is home to advanced manufacturing, automation, and technology companies. Our sheet metal fabrication services support:

Automation & Robotics Equipment

Precision frames, guarding, enclosures, and structural components.

Scientific & Laboratory Equipment

Clean, accurate fabrication for research and analytical environments.

Industrial Machinery Manufacturing

Formed panels, weldments, and structural assemblies.

Electrical & Control Enclosures

Fabricated cabinets, mounting plates, and integrated hardware solutions.

What does sheet metal fabrication cost for Kitchener companies?

Cost drivers include:

  • Part size and sheet utilization (standard sheets are typically 5’ x 10’)
  • Material grade and thickness
  • Number of setups and material changes
  • Secondary operations such as countersinks or machining
  • Overly restrictive GD&T tolerances

Designing for manufacturability can significantly reduce cost. Small changes such as converting holes to slots can reduce assembly issues without increasing laser cost.

Steel Fabrication Toronto – FAQ

Seaborn Manufacturing does not offer structural steel erection, field installation or onsite construction services.

Carbon Steels are a core material for Seaborn Manufacturing. We also work with non ferrous metals such as aluminum and stainless steel.

Steel fabrication cost depends on material grade, thickness, part size, tolerances and total order volume. The tolerance, size and quantity of your parts all impact fabrication cost. The machines required to fabricate your steel parts also impact cost. Take a laser for example these machines generally cost in excess of a million dollars and one can not charge the same hourly for these as say a $6,000 MIG welder. The only way you will know your steel fabrication costs is to submit an RFQ.

Yes. Seaborn Manufacturing works with Ontario manufacturers, including companies in the Toronto and general G.T.A area. We understand the need for dependable steel fabrication, reasonable lead times and consistent production. We have been serving manufacturers throughout the GTA for more than 45 years now. We know manufacturing and what manufacturers need.

We can handle one off engineered steel fabrication projects, but our preferred work is production based. Seaborn Manufacturing is not the best fit for one off art pieces, walkin repairs or low value prototype only work. We are a strong fit when a custom steel component is part of a repeat manufacturing program. If your project has drawings, quantities and ongoing demand, we can review it for production suitability. We strongly believe it is better to work in win-win situations with our manufacturing partners.

Steel fabrication can include laser cutting, sawing, tube bending, CNC forming, welding, grinding, machining, hardware insertion and assembly. The exact process depends on the part design and end use. At Seaborn Manufacturing, these steps are managed with job runners that track straight back to the estimate. We try to reduce handling, and use automation such as CNC machines and robotics where practical. Seaborn serves Toronto and all of Ontario with steel fabrication services.

Quality starts with the estimate  reviewing drawings, material requirements and the intended production volume. CNC equipment helps maintain repeatability in cutting and forming. Skilled welders and fabricators control fit and make the required fine adjustments. Inspections take place and are tracked  at every step to verify dimensional accuracy to drawing tolerances. Care and verification of work is how we maintain quality in our steel fabrication.

We can and frequently do provide practical manufacturing feedback to help improve fabrication efficiency. This may include suggestions related to design, weld access, material thickness, part simplification or production cost reduction. We do not replace your engineering authority or take responsibility for product design certification. Our support is focused on manufacturability and helping your steel components move efficiently through production.
