Heavy Plate Welding and Fabrication

Seaborn’s heavy plate fabrication combines high power laser cutting (20kw), forming and welding into a single manufacturing facility. With our in house laser cutting capacity up to 2″ carbon steel and 1.25″ stainless steel and aluminum, Seaborn Manufacturing can fabricate heavy welded assemblies that many fabrication shops need to outsource. Managing your heavy projects becomes easier when a single source handles them from end to end for you.

Heavy Steel Plate Welding and Fabrication

Heavy steel plate fabrication requires equipment capable of accurately processing thick materials while maintaining dimensional control. Seaborn Manufacturing heavy plate laser cuts carbon and mild steel plate up to 2″ thick, allowing for faster production of heavy weldments without the need for outside suppliers. Combined with CWB 47.1 & 47.2 certified welding, we manufacture structural components, equipment frames, base plates, machine foundations and industrial assemblies. Keeping cutting, forming and welding under one roof improves quality control, lead times and overall project coordination.

Stainless Steel and Aluminum Heavy Plate Fabrication

Stainless steel and aluminum plate components require specialized cutting and welding procedures to achieve strength, appearance and accuracy. Seaborn Manufacturing laser cuts stainless steel and aluminum plate up to 1.25″ thick in house, providing clean edges and precise part geometry for further fabrication. Our welding team produces heavy duty components for industrial equipment, processing systems, transportation applications and structural assemblies. By combining laser cutting, forming and welding in a single facility, we maintain tighter control over quality, and scheduling.

Welding and Fabrication for Industrial Materials

Carbon Steel Welding and Fabrication

Carbon steel or mild steel is and should be the first choice for most fabrication jobs. It is a very economical choice that provides excellent structural strength and durability. Carbon steel is easy to fabricate and weld. It is not an accident that you find it surrounding you all the time. Dependable, Reliable, and Affordable make carbon steel a fantastic choice for welding and fabrication.

Welding and Fabrication of Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is the metal of choice for resistance to many chemicals and harsh environments. Stainless is a little more challenging to fabricate than mild steel and has extra steps involved in finishing its welds often. Stainless has a noticeable lower heat transfer rate than regular steel making it a decent heat shield material as well. Stainless will cost roughly 2.5 x to 3 times more than carbon steel in sheets. This is not an insignificant difference in cost. Stainless is the choice of many in the food, and pharmaceutical industries. Should be kept in mind that it is called stainless not unstainable. Stainless still can and will corrode under exposure to many harsh environments.

Fabricating and Welding Aluminium

Aluminum is the go to metal for weight reduction and high heat transfer rates. Additional aluminum has excellent metal fatigue characteristics in extreme cold. Aluminum while a soft metal has several fabrication and welding challenges. With aluminium being a soft metal marking tends to be the first issue when fabricating it. Witness marks are very common in aluminium. A good textured powder coat can help these to disappear while keeping costs in check. Welding aluminum takes professionals. There are no CSA prequalified joints or welding perimeters for aluminum. Every joint style and alloy combination needs to be qualified when CSA approval is required. To weld aluminum well we believe only the latest in solid state welders with aluminum specific features will do. To that end we have dedicated equipment for the task of aluminum welding.

Only testing can prove aluminum welding parameters. Visual inspection on aluminum welds is not sufficient to know the quality of the weld. Aluminum in the raw state is not a corrosion resistant material.

Welding and Fabrication Services FAQ

Welding is the science and art of fusing two part together. Fabrication encompasses the entire process of making a part or product such as, laser cutting, forming and often welding as well.

We can not think of a single industry that does not make use of metal fabrication and welding services near me.

It is not complicated how prices are calculated. Like most thing costs are determined by the cost of material(s) required and time to produce the part or product.

We do not offer mobile or on site services. We are production orientated metal fabricators making our OEM clients parts for their products.
