For many sheet metal projects, using inserts can provide greater strength and flexibility. Inserts can serve many different functions from stand offs and grounding studs, to mechanical bearings. More than just fastening part A to part B, inserts enhance the product in strength and ease of use. Often times using inserts will help reduce assembly cost.

An insert is simply any part placed into another part. Most of the inserts we use are intended to fit securely and require precise holes and installation to guarantee their effectiveness. Common inserts, like nuts, are often used to make assembly easier and the finished product stronger. A lot of inserts are for sheet metal but we have press fit bearings and sleeves into some large parts. Whatever size of project you’re working with, if you need inserts Seaborn will install them.

Seaborn offers a broad range of insert materials. When deciding on an insert, one should always consider the properties of the base metal and the insert and how they will interact in the intended environment. For example, the self-clinching nut maybe purchased as aluminum, steel, zinc plated, chromate and even stainless. There are inserts which are made from copper and or brass or even plated. You must insure the chosen inserts add the most value without causing any issue.

Inserts offer endless possibilities for improving your product, and are an important part of every successful designer’s toolbox. Contact us today!
